Safety Tips When Dating Online

Dating online is a fun and interesting way to meet new people. But, most of the sites are not very choosy about who their members are. There is no screening process and there really is no way to tell a person's real character. This is why when you become a member of dating sites you must be skeptical.

The following are tips on how to avoid dangerous risks when dating online:

1. Be anonymous

Don't disclose your real email address or any other personal information in your profile for everyone to feast on. Information like personal URL, name, contact numbers, or home and office addresses can easily trap you. When sending email, make sure your signature is turned off especially if there is any personal information there.

2. See their photos

When dating online, you should request for a photo so you can assess him. It should be easy to scan existing photographs or upload any photo from a digital camera or camera phone. There couldn't b e any excuse for not having one online.

3. Check your instincts

You can't verify if your online acquaintance is a good person or not so, don't trust too soon when you're dating online. Check what your gut feel tells you and trust that. Be careful not to fall easily as that is dangerous. Use common sense or logic and don't rely on your emotions. These feelings can run high and you could become too involved and indulging.

4. Make that call

How a person speaks is a good indicator of the character. Call this person you are interested in before you completely trust him. It could be costly if the person lives far away but it'll be worth it. It is safer too, to use a public pay phone when calling, unless you are already confident about this person.

5. Delay the meet-up

Get to know the person thoroughly first through dating online before you agree to meet up. You have the control so use that power well. If you only want to meet up because you have been swept away by the words addressed to you during your online chats, you should stop yourself.

6. Learn to psychoanalyze

Pay attention to signs of intense emotions or behavior. Any hints of aggressiveness or extreme anger should warn you. Do not proceed with the communication as you might just be putting yourself in danger.

7. Finally meet up

When you're meeting up, let people know about your whereabouts. Leave the contact information of the person you're dating online to a trusted friend. Meet up somewhere else and not at your residence. Agree to meet in public and bring your own car. To be on the safer side, don't leave your drink unattended. Go home by yourself or ask a friend to fetch you.
